Octave today introduced the WiseMatch index, a proprietary methodology for matching patients with the in-network therapists best suited to their needs. The Index is the newest capability in WiseMatch, a technology platform for finding and booking in-network mental healthcare. At the core of the Index is the Clinical Quality Measure, which assesses therapists on treatment fit and effectiveness. It has been independently peer-reviewed by Motive Medical Intelligence (Motive), a leading clinician performance solutions company.
WiseMatch launched in March 2026 to make it possible to book in-network therapy directly inside care platforms, such as insurance directories. The WiseMatch Index extends that work, giving health plans and payors a peer-reviewed way to identify which in-network providers best fit for a patient. The Index evaluates more than 450,000 behavioral health providers nationally.
The WiseMatch Index is built on two pillars: a Clinical Quality Measure, which reflects providers’ therapeutic alliance, effectiveness, efficiency, and accessibility, and Client Inputs, which account for a patient’s stated clinical needs and scheduling preferences.
“More than a third of patients quit therapy before it has a chance to work,” said Golee Abrishami, PhD, VP of Clinical Care at Octave. “Matching a patient with the right therapist can be the difference between giving up and staying in treatment long enough to see results. Built with feedback and data from practicing therapists, the WiseMatch Index is designed to make that match happen from the start.”
Octave engaged Motive to peer-review the framework and approach used in the Clinical Quality Measure against Motive’s established, industrywide standard for clinician performance measurement. The Motive evaluation included examination of the Clinical Quality Measure definitions, weights, and validation processes.
“With the Clinical Quality Measure, Octave is leading the way in bringing performance metrics to the challenges of access and quality in behavioral health,” said Julie Scherer, Chief Solutions Officer at Motive.
The peer-reviewed Index comes as payors, provider groups, and policymakers confront ghost networks, or insurance directories that show unavailable providers. WiseMatch solves this by identifying the highest-quality, best-fit providers for a patient’s needs and confirming their real-time availability. WiseMatch is currently used across more than 100,000 providers, and trusted by healthcare companies representing +23M covered lives, including several regional Blue Cross Blue Shield plans currently implementing the WiseMatch Index.
“Our mission is to ensure that the next patient entering the mental health system has the best chance at a successful outcome, no matter how we can support it,” said Sandeep Acharya, Octave Founder and CEO. “By enabling stronger matches, the WiseMatch Index makes it more likely that a patient trusts the provider they connect with, and higher trust leads to better outcomes.”
