AI Now Predicts the Next Empty Leg Private Jet Flight

Empty Leg List has published 117 predictions for next week, written before the week begins, and will publish how many were right.

CLUJ-NAPOCA, CLUJ, ROMANIA, September 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Empty Leg List, a listing service for empty leg private jet flights, has begun publishing weekly predictions of where the next empty leg will appear, together with a public record of how often those predictions turn out to be right.

An empty leg is a flight a charter jet makes with nobody on board, repositioning between paid jobs. Operators sell those seats cheaply. The flights are hard to find because they sit on dozens of separate operator websites, they are published with days of notice, and they disappear when they sell.

Empty Leg List has read 5,737 of them since 30 July 2026, from 60 operator sources, across 420 cities and 41 departure countries. 1,635 are live at the time of writing, and roughly 133 new flights arrive each day.

That record is what the forecast runs on. Each Monday the system writes down which routes it expects to carry an empty leg in the coming week, before that week starts. The following Monday it records what actually happened, next to what it said. The first set, 117 predictions for the week beginning 14 September 2026, is already published. The first scores appear on 21 September.

The record already shows routes that repeat. Antwerp to Ibiza on a Friday carried an empty leg in every one of the six weeks recorded so far, and so did the return. Fifteen flights in total, none of them with a published price.

The company is unusually direct about the limits. Before settling on its current method it fitted a larger statistical model across all routes and then discarded it, because the data did not support it: 2,768 of the 2,885 route and weekday combinations in the record appeared exactly once, so most empty legs are one-offs rather than a weekly pattern, and the model was reading structure that is not there.

“Predicting empty legs with AI sounds complicated, and like it does not matter much. It does,” said Radu, founder of Empty Leg List. “It helps us make sense of the inventory we list, and it helps travellers plan further ahead. A prediction nobody checks is worth nothing, so we publish the prediction first and the score after it.”

The wider point is matching. An empty leg is a flight that is already scheduled, so filling it does not burn less fuel on that sector. What it can do is remove the need for a second aircraft movement: a passenger who takes an existing repositioning flight is a passenger who does not charter a separate one. Better matching means fewer additional flights, which is a different and more defensible claim than the ones commonly made about empty legs, and the company publishes a guide setting out exactly which environmental claims hold and which do not.

The site was built in five weeks using AI, by a single person, and the entire live board is published as an open data feed in JSON and CSV, free and without a key, so every figure above can be checked independently. Operator names are not published on the site and are not in the feed.
