JJ Watt Joins Base Power as an Investor and a Member

Base Power today is announcing that JJ Watt is investing and partnering with the Texas-based energy company that is bringing affordable, reliable energy to Americans.
Watt is investing as part of Base’s $1 billion Series D, announced yesterday. He has lived in Texas for 15 years and has seen firsthand the impact of unreliable and expensive power, which is what drew him to Base. Watt has also joined Base as a member, and since switching his Houston home to Base he is saving over 20% on his power bill.
“I like companies that solve real problems, and Base is lowering power bills, protecting families, and building the whole thing themselves right here in Texas,” said Watt. “What impressed me wasn’t just how fast they’ve grown. It’s that they’ve already saved Texans millions on their power bills and kept thousands of homes running when the lights went out. That’s why I invested.”
Base is building the largest distributed network of home batteries, strengthening the grid while saving homeowners money. When the grid goes down, the battery powers the home automatically. Because Base earns revenue by providing services to the grid, homeowners get affordable home backup, usually for a few hundred dollars upfront, and cost savings. Since publicly launching in 2024, Base now powers more than 30,000 homes across Texas, and recently expanded to Illinois.
Since retiring, Watt has built a portfolio across sport and consumer brands. In 2023 he became an owner of Burnley Football Club, the English club, and he works as a studio analyst for CBS Sports. Base Power is his first investment in energy.
