Seattle Tacoma, WA, October 16, 2026 —
Three Washington congressional contests are drawing attention as midterm elections approach, with the 3rd, 4th and 5th districts identified as key races. The analysis describes a competitive contest in southwestern Washington, an open-seat race in central Washington and a rematch in eastern Washington.
In the 3rd Congressional District, Democratic incumbent Marie Gluesenkemp Perez is facing Republican John Braun. The race is described as highly competitive and as having national implications for control of the U.S. House majority. The analysis does not provide polling figures or other details to quantify the competitiveness.
The 4th District, in central Washington, has an open seat. Republican Amanda McKinney is facing Democrat John Duresky. No incumbent is identified in the race, and the summary does not specify why the seat is open or provide further information about the candidates’ campaigns.
In the 5th District, which includes Spokane, Republican incumbent Michael Baumgartner is facing Democrat Carmela Conroy in a rematch. The summary identifies the matchup but does not give details about the prior contest or how the candidates performed in it.
The analysis anticipates that the other seven Washington congressional races will remain under Democratic control. It does not name those districts or candidates, explain the basis for that expectation, or offer polling, fundraising figures, election dates or projected margins. As a result, the information provided centers on the three highlighted matchups and gives limited detail about the broader state contests.
